Sounduo is a post-dub, audio/visual live performance project. It features poly-rhythmic hip-hop grooves, vintage samples, soulful vocals, ambient soundscapes, and heavy synth bass passed through a scuzzed-out dub filter and mangled using the latest in glitch technology, live. Masters of creating a futuristic glowing dub atmosphere while maintaining the bass-driven, party-vibe feel of bass music, Sounduo has showcased their abilities to cater to both festival environments as well as intimate club settings. Whether performing in the Southeast at some of the biggest music festivals (Ultra, Blackwater, Aura, Winter Music Conference, Art Basel), sharing dates with artists such as Big Gigantic, Elliot Lipp, Zoogma, and Archnemesis, headlining club dates, or being featured on prominent electronic blogs, Sounduo’s buzz for their live performances has steadily grown and the next year promises to be a leap forward for these electronic and visual dub pioneers.
With the release of ‘Departures,’ their debut LP on Made in Glitch (Bass Science, Gladkill, NastyNasty,Samples,GRiZ), and subsequent Southeast regional tour in early 2012, Sounduo continues to push the boundaries of post-dub/glitch music and are poised to enter the national arena. If you’re a fan of Drum n Bass, you’re no stranger to Sub Focus’ smooth brand of the upbeat style of the music. Here, the English producer comes at us with what I like to call Liquid Fire. Liquid Drum n Bass is a title given to smoother, melodic Drum n Bass music and that’s exactly what we have here. Alice Gold’s vocals give this track the same feeling as a Kaskade tune, but the 90 bpm drums add a whole new dimension to the track.
Here at DubEra, we don’t post too much about hip hop. But that’s not to say we aren’t hip hop heads here. Nas has been one of my favorite rappers for the past decade (chill elitists, I’m only 20) or so and when he puts out a music video of this stature we’re going to give it the recognition it deserves. This video is complete with epic camera shots, the statue of liberty, Cuban cigars, mim0sas, fine dining, sexy girls, Rolls Royces, sky scrapers, cool effects, fire, high fashion and all things New York Hip Hop stands for. Nas’ new album “Life Is Good” is set to drop July 17.
That intro gives me goosebumps! The sound quality is top notch and the set is shot from a variety of angles. I love the new trend in streaming / recording video of full live sets. The Coachella stream was amazing and I heard the Ultra stream was top-notch too (I wouldn’t know… I was too busy enjoying it in person). If you all have never heard of “The HOT Sh*t”, it is Pretty Lights radio station on XM. He gets on there and rips it once a week for all the PL fiends such as myself. The lineup for Bisco came out a while back and it is a serious banger! Last year was my first Bisco experience and it was a blast!! Lots of fun and festive people. It got really messy last year. The whole place was like a giant mudslide from all the rain but that made it twice as fun!

If you haven’t been seeing all the info floating around about this awesome festival you need to do your research and snag a ticket asap before prices go up! I have to say, this fest looks like its going to be pretty amazing. We will definitely be trying to make it out to cover this one. The concept is awesome. Everything on their website is worded really neat and it all fits the majestic Gnarnia mood they have created. $95 dollar Winter Clearance Passes still available for a couple more days! Flosstradamus and Deniro Farrar have linked up for one of the most interesting rap tracks I’ve heard in a long, long time. Flosstradamus’ production is along the lines of their other bass-heavy dubstep / trap muzik works. Deniro Farrar, an MC I’ve never heard of but will look into, delivers some raw bars that show hip hop lovers there is still good music being put out there. Being a big Flosstradamus fan, I definitely hope they get with more MCs and produce intelligent, well orchestrated hip hop pieces like this in the very near future.
The smoothest DJ in the game has blessed us with a live recording of his Coachella set. The California-based DJ blazes through a variety of carefully formulated mash-ups that are sure to get your pre-game pumped up. Enjoy!
